Everyone has seen a successful website with plenty of website traffic. They are usually well thought out, well put together and have a lot of hidden things going on behind the actual page that make them so successful. In order to be competitive in today's online market your website needs to be optimized, professional, and credible. If your website has common mistakes, they can not only drive traffic away from your site, but damage your name and that can last for a very long time.

 

One of the common mistakes people make in developing their website, is to publish it before it is finished. Publishing your website before it is completed allows not only blank pages to show, or works in progress comments, but can also have bugs, wrong way links, and have redirect pages to nowhere. It ruins your credibility and professionalism to have a website up and running, that is not complete. It doesn't take long to finish your website, so waiting until is complete before you actually published can do you a lot of good.

Another common mistake people make is putting website counters on the site. These are visible markers showing how much website traffic has touched on your site. Should your website counters show few visitors, other visitors may think it's not worth their time to be there. If you show a high count on your website counter, people may feel you're being deceptive. If you need a counter on your site, make sure it's invisible.

It's important to have a well directed website. It's not fun for a consumer to have to wander around your website looking for a link to send you an e-mail, join your newsletter, or find particular items. A well layed out website allows the consumer to quickly and easily find what they want, contact you and join your newsletter. Give good directions on your website, allow consumers to find things quickly and easily, and ask for the newsletter sign-up or contact

Once you designed your website and have it up and running, don't think that it's going to run on its own. A website is like any other advertising campaign, store, or information network, and it needs to be maintained on a regular basis. This may mean marketing your own website, putting your link on your e-mail or linking it to other pertinent sites. Your website needs to be easily found and visible in order to drive website traffic and generate interest. If you fail to market your own website, there's a good chance it'll be 200 pages down on Google and nobody will be able to find it.

In order to gain website traffic, stay away from common mistakes of publishing your website before it's finished, not asking for the sale, allowing consumers to see your personal information such as web counters, or allowing your website to try to gain website traffic on its own.
